The town of Versailles has officially been selected as the base camp for the Wales team at the Rugby World Cup 2023. For 7 and a half weeks (from 8 September to 28 October 2023), the Wales delegation will be based at the Porchefontaine stadium to prepare for the group stage of this international competition.
To help the Royal City welcome one of Europe's greatest rugby teams in the best possible conditions, GL events has been commissioned to build the team's temporary gym. It was vital for the town of Versailles to have all the professional sports facilities needed to host the rugby teams if it was to respond to the call for bids issued by the France 2023 public interest group and become an official base camp for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
This 250m² turnkey gym was built by our teams in a record time of 3 weeks.
Fully thermally insulated thanks to a sandwich panel system and an over-pressurised roof, it includes a sports floor, as well as all the technical equipment needed for the team's well-being and safety: ambient and emergency lighting, heating and ventilation.
In addition, with a view to a responsible legacy following the competition, the City of Versailles drew up its specifications with the aim of giving a new purpose to the temporary building, transforming it into a permanent structure. This initiative fits perfectly with the requirements for sports infrastructure in the community. By anticipating future needs, the City of Versailles is firmly committed to ensuring the sustainable use of the buildings resulting from this world-class event, including our temporary gym, which is destined to evolve into a permanent sports facility.
